M16 Rifle United States Armed Forces

The M16 rifle (officially designated Rifle, Caliber 5.56 mm, M16) is a family of military rifles adapted from the ArmaLite AR-15 rifle for the United States military.

Framed for display is the scale model of the M16 rifle, also called Colt AR-15, an assault rifle previously used by the United States Armed Forces. The M16 Assault Rifle was the standard-issue shoulder weapon in the U.S. military. Designed to fire small, high-velocity rounds (5.56 mm caliber vs. 7.62 mm), the weapon is relatively small and light, thereby significantly decreasing the overall load warfighters needed to carry. The M16 Assault Rifle was introduced into the Army service in the mid-1960s as a section weapon for use by scouts and section commanders during the Vietnam War. The M16 (AR15) is a gas-operated, select-fire, magazine-fed rifle.

This quality 1/6th scale miniature model is die-cast in a zinc alloy before being hand finished by a former defence member and measures 19.7 cm long.
