We are thrilled to present a beautifully framed collection showcasing the cap badge of the 8th Battalion, an infantry battalion of the First Australian Imperial Force that served between 1914 and 1919 and again from 1921 to 1946.
The 8th Battalion, Infantry was established in 1914 as part of the First Australian Imperial Force during World War I. This battalion was entirely recruited from Victoria and served in the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division of the Australian Army. It was later re-raised as part of the reconstituted Citizen Military Force. During this reformation, the 8th and 7th Battalions were combined to create the 8th/7th Battalion, Northwestern Victorian Regiment.
Today, the Australian Army is Australia’s principal land warfare force, a part of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force.
