The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is a progressive and multi-faceted law enforcement organisation taking a strong lead in the fight against crime. The AFP has the unique role of investigating crime and protecting the national security of the Commonwealth of Australia. The Commissioner’s Commendation for Brave Conduct was awarded to individuals who have performed in the discharge of their duty an act of bravery of a high order and placed themselves at substantial risk of personal injury.

The ribbon of the AFP Commissioners Commendation for Brave Conduct is five stripes of scarlet, white, scarlet, white, scarlet, the central scarlet stripe, the two white stripes and the outer scarlet stripes; the central scarlet stripe carries a central dark blue stripe and the white stripes each have a central dark blue stripe. The colours of the ribbon combine the police colours of blue and white with scarlet, the colour of bravery and sacrifice.
