Framed for Display is the beret badge of the 5th Special Air Service. The 5th Special Air Service (5th SAS) was an elite airborne unit during World War II. It consisted entirely of Belgian volunteers. It saw action as part of the SAS Brigade in Normandy, Northern France, Belgium, the Netherlands and (Germany). The Special Operations Regiment is a special forces unit of the Belgium Army. In January 1942, The very first Belgian parachutists began training at RAF Ringway, Manchester, England. In 1945 the 5th Special Air Service (SAS) unit was transferred from the British Army to the newly reformed Belgian Army. Renamed the Regiment of Parachutists SAS, they served independently as a highly mobile airborne unit until the early 1950s when the regiment merged with the Commando Regiment to form a battalion of the Para Commando Regiment. The Special Operations Regiment is a regiment of the Land Component of the Belgian Armed Forces.
